Title: Three Paycheck Month
Genre: Spoken Word / Comedy

Originality in the performing arts is on the edge of extinction. Autotune has homogenized the vocals of our best talent into the voice of a singular robot. The modern Hollywood formula for success is to parody movies of other movies that were first TV shows based on comic books. And comedy fans are still herded into cheesy night clubs with cheesier onomatopoeic names and told recycled dick jokes by insult-hurling-keyboard-tie-wearing jackasses stuck in a twenty-five year time warp. Perhaps this last cruel fact is the most damning of our society. Satire is supposed to halt our culture's wayward drift, not drive it further into the repetitive oblivion.

Luckily for culture, The Ben Mills Two's debut album Three Paycheck Month can now be added to the smart arsenal of the cerebral comedy fan. The soundscaped monologues, derived from the unique experiences of a working class comedian and an academic singer-songwriter, are the comedic equivalent of finding long lost money in your pockets when you're broke.

The Ben Mills Two consists of comedian Ben Mills (originally from Nanaimo, British Columbia) and musician David Newberry (originally from Peterborough, Ontario). They met in 2005 while working as cashiers in a splintery ticket window in the historic town of Barkerville in BC. They worked side by side again in the city of Vancouver as cooks in a Gastown pub. During this time they began collaborating on ideas for an original comedy album as respite from the menial chores of their employment. The ideas came to fruition in 2009 when the two created a makeshift studio in Newberry's living room in a Jervis Street apartment. The live tracks were recorded at a theatre in a Science Museum during daylight hours. The CDs were duplicated in Mills' current home city of Halifax Nova Scotia, stretching the 100% Canadian creative process from coast to coast. It was soft released online in November 2009 and was warmly received among the comedian community. β€œIt breaks ground in the grey area between poetry and stand up, brilliant.” Simon King - professional stand up comic.

Summer 2010 marks the full launch of Three Paycheck Month on independent Canadian radio. The digital copies cost $8 and can be downloaded from this website. Physical copies of the CD are also available to residents of Canada for $12 plus shipping costs. Just e-mail benmills36@gmail.com for details. (Free stickers are also available)

This relevant album guarantees to be the best quasi-hybrid-musical-soundscape-comedy that indie radio will hear in 2010. Three Paycheck Month is to the comedy fan what an actual three paycheck month is to the wage slave; deserving redemption that couldn't come at a better time.
